Thriving Neighborhoods Program
In collaboration with the City of Moline, we are developing a new initiative to engage neighborhood associations, improve infrastructure, and empower residents to impact the future of their neighborhoods.
Trees contribute to neighborhoods.
Thanks to a grant from Trees Forever, the Moline CDC worked with the Moline Parks & Rec Department and Arborist Terry Bates to plant ten trees in the Olde Towne neighborhood. Members of local neighborhood associations and City employees contributed their time on a very hot June day to install these trees in their new home.
This block in Olde Towne lost most of its trees in the 2020 derecho. The City saw planting new trees as an opportunity to bring back shade and appearance benefits, while also increasing the diversity of our tree population in Moline. The trees were selected for easy care and resistance to pests like the emerald ash borer.
It may take a little while for these trees to really spread their branches, but we are proud to help restore some of our beautiful tee canopy lost in recent years. We look forward to partnering with Parks & Rec to plant additional trees in the future.
