Parks
Between 2014 and 2018, the Moline CDC partnered with the Moline Parks & Recreation Department to update park amenities in five neighborhood parks:
Riverside Park (2014): See below.
McCandless Park (2015 & 2017): New ADA-compliant facilities.
Millenium Park (2017): New playground equipment.
Lincoln Irving Ball Park (2017): Upgraded baseball diamond backstop, security lights, and benches.
Stephens Park (2018): New baseball backstop, rolle bolle court improvements, and security lights.
All are welcome at the Riverside Park Playground.
The Quad City Children’s Therapy Center helped the Moline CDC design the first all-inclusive playground on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities. This safety-themed playground can be enjoyed by children and families at all levels of ability.
The Moline CDC raised over $100,000 to fund the playground through grants and donations. It was installed by Moline Parks & Recreation with volunteer labor from the Moline CDC.
Occupational therapist Christy Hansen and physical therapist Janelle Trapkus from the Quad City Children’s Therapy Center advised on the design. They suggested some equipment for active play (like the merry-go-round) and others to offer hiding places where a child can escape (like the cozy dome). The play structures include many interactive features within easy reach, and the level rubber tiles make the whole playground area wheelchair accessible. Limiting the design to three colors also helps children with certain sensitivities.
